DENVER (CBS4)- Denver voters passed the Mill Levy Override and Bond initiatives for Denver Public Schools during Tuesday?s election.
Denver voters passed 3A, the Mill Levy Increase, 67 percent to 32 percent and 3B, the Bond initiative, 63 percent to 37 percent.
?We?re thrilled. We had both our Bond and our Mill Levy passed overwhelmingly. We want to give a huge thank you to the voters of Denver for their investment in our schools and our kids,? said DPS Superintendent Tom Boasberg.
The Mill Levy investment will increase Early Childhood Education and full-day kindergarten options as well as support enrichment opportunities and tutoring for students.
The Bond will support crucial construction, repair and upgrade projects needed at aging schools across the city.
Boasberg said the money will make a huge difference in the school district.
?The Denver Public Schools has been our most rapidly and strongly improving district in our state in terms of our academic growth of our kids, in terms of our enrollment, and this is a real investment in our kids, in our future of our city,? said Boasberg. ?It will mean more preschool for our kids, more art and music and sports. It will mean tutoring for our kids.?
?What this will mean is 1,000 four-year-olds in poverty will now have access to preschool which is a wonderful way to close our achievement gaps and give every kid a chance,? said Boasberg.
